Per una bioetica costruita "dal basso". Affinità elettive tra bioetica empirica e comitati etici per la pratica clinica

Riassunto Questo saggio si propone di analizzare l’impatto della cosiddetta “bioetica empirica” sulle attività dei comitati etici per la pratica clinica. A tal fine, nella prima parte, esso presenta tre esempi di ricerche di bioetica empirica promosse da comitati etici per la pratica clinica, esplicitando le lezioni apprese e le sfide aperte da queste esperienze. Nella seconda parte, il lavoro si propone di riflettere sulle ragioni per cui un numero crescente di comitati etici per la pratica clinica si impegna in studi di bioetica empirica ed esplicita i sei motivi per cui esiste un’affinità elettiva tra questo nuovo modo di praticare la bioetica e questa tipologia di comitati etici. In sintesi, si tratta di due esperienze accomunate dallo sforzo di “costruire una bioetica dal basso”, che potrebbe offrire spunti interessanti alla bioetica in generale. Abstract This paper aims at analysing the impact of the so-called empirical bioethics (EB) on the activities of healthcare ethics committees (HECs). To this aim, in the first part the essay describes three examples of EB studies promoted by HECs, highlighting the lessons learnt and the theoretical challenges posed by this kind of researches. In the second part, the paper focuses on the reasons why a growing number of HECs undertakes EB studies and points out the six common elements that explain the elective affinity between this new way of doing bioethics and this kind of ethics committees. In sum, EB and HECs share the common goal of “building a bottom-up bioethics”, taking up a style which could be useful for the bioethics movement in general.
