This note presents a new structured approach for the assessment of the coastal erosion processes and for the evaluation of criticalities and of mitigation strategies at different scales. A single GIS platform is used to contain all the terms necessary for the evaluation of the sediment budget, including the computed outputs and the proposals for coastal management, based on coherent criteria. The numerical methods used, the interface between models and GIS platform, the criteria for the prioritization of the mitigation measures are presented and discussed, referring to the case of the Venetian littoral.

Abstract

This note presents a new structured approach for the assessment of the coastal erosion processes and for the evaluation of criticalities and of mitigation strategies at different scales. A single GIS platform is used to contain all the terms necessary for the evaluation of the sediment budget, including the computed outputs and the proposals for coastal management, based on coherent criteria. The numerical methods used, the interface between models and GIS platform, the criteria for the prioritization of the mitigation measures are presented and discussed, referring to the case of the Venetian littoral.
