The two brothers Bernardo (1712-1761) and Giacomo Nani (1725-1797) collected more than 300 Greek manuscripts, now preserved at the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice. Giacomo acquired most of the manuscripts in the Ionian Islands and in other areas of the Eastern Mediterranean, where he travelled for many years, while fulfilling his duties as military commander. Giacomo’s unpublished letters to his brother offer a great wealth of information regarding the activity he displayed in order to obtain Greek manuscripts. These new data allow us to reconstruct the history of the collection in detail.

Abstract
The two brothers Bernardo (1712-1761) and Giacomo Nani (1725-1797) collected more than 300 Greek manuscripts, now preserved at the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice. Giacomo acquired most of the manuscripts in the Ionian Islands and in other areas of the Eastern Mediterranean, where he travelled for many years, while fulfilling his duties as military commander. Giacomo’s unpublished letters to his brother offer a great wealth of information regarding the activity he displayed in order to obtain Greek manuscripts. These new data allow us to reconstruct the history of the collection in detail.File in questo prodotto:
