Modern editors usually regard Hist. Aug. Alex. 68 - a list of presumed counsel¬lors of the emperor Severus Alexander - as an interpolation. Its first appearance has been supposed to be the 1489 edition of the Historia Augusta, printed in Venice. But a close examination of Giovanni Colonna’s Mare historiarum (contained in ms. Laur. Edili 173) and Guglielmo da Pastrengo’s De viris illustribus allows us to move it to the first half of the 14th century, compelling reconsideration of some of the current recon¬structions of the tradition of the Historia Augusta in the Late Middle Ages.

Abstract
Modern editors usually regard Hist. Aug. Alex. 68 - a list of presumed counsel¬lors of the emperor Severus Alexander - as an interpolation. Its first appearance has been supposed to be the 1489 edition of the Historia Augusta, printed in Venice. But a close examination of Giovanni Colonna’s Mare historiarum (contained in ms. Laur. Edili 173) and Guglielmo da Pastrengo’s De viris illustribus allows us to move it to the first half of the 14th century, compelling reconsideration of some of the current recon¬structions of the tradition of the Historia Augusta in the Late Middle Ages.File in questo prodotto:
