Introduction to edited volume. The article argues that peoples movement in postwar Europe affects the meaning and perception of nation states as assumed to be after the ethnic reassesment following WWII. Economic north-south imbalances, decolonisation and the European integration process have been the causes of peoples movement South-North and East-West that have reshaped the West-European ethnic environment in the last decades.
