Abstract

In the last decades designing sustainable transport activities has become a fundamental issue, since the transport sector charges the environment and the society of significant burdens. As a consequence, multimodal freight transportation has received growing attention, both in practice and in the scientific literature. This paper provides an overview of planning decisions in multimodal freight transport, with a focus on the strategic level of planning, where we present the solution methods proposed in the scientific literature. Finally, future research subjects are identified and discussed.
