A survey has been carried out among the forest enterprises in Lombardy with the aim of enlighten the diffusion of the cable crane and the technical features of the machines and evaluate the professional capability of the forest enterprises in using cable crane. The picture that emerges from the survey is quite positive with a considerable number of forest enterprises equipped with cable crane. Within the sample examined most of the forest enterprises show a medium level of professional capability. This results leads to the need for interventions oriented toward the renewal of the machines, on one side, and the development of the vocational education and training in the area of cable yarding, on the other side.
