The author examines nine Second World War diaries, written during the Italian Liberation. In the first paragraph there is a description of the texts, their origins and characteristics. Parts of the diaries were written during the narrated events, part after. That means a different writing method: the first type of diary implicates a discontinuous method of writing; the second type, a continuous one. In the second paragraph different dating systems: analytic or irregular, durative or punctual, are analyzed. These different methods implicate different temporal perspectives, which are also signified by verb tenses. So, in the following paragraphs the author examines the use of verb tenses and their stylistic meanings: first the past tense, then deictic present and narrative or historical present. The last one is analyzed in relation to the verb semantics, the temporal and spatial diesis and the narrative space. In the last paragraph, the author examines the temporal transitions and their textual function.
