Recent excavations carried out by Università di Padova at the “fondi ex Cossar” area have provided the research on Aquileia’s town planning with fresh evidence. The investigated site is a residential insula located in the south-eastern part of the city, within the Republican city-walls. Starting from the study of an “atrium house” plan, we suggest that the whole insula - measuring 4 x 2 actus - was made up of 24 building lots, each one with the same surface (1/3 x 1 actus). In Northern Italy, a residential lot excavated in Bologna provides an interesting comparison for our case-study.

Abstract
Recent excavations carried out by Università di Padova at the “fondi ex Cossar” area have provided the research on Aquileia’s town planning with fresh evidence. The investigated site is a residential insula located in the south-eastern part of the city, within the Republican city-walls. Starting from the study of an “atrium house” plan, we suggest that the whole insula - measuring 4 x 2 actus - was made up of 24 building lots, each one with the same surface (1/3 x 1 actus). In Northern Italy, a residential lot excavated in Bologna provides an interesting comparison for our case-study.File in questo prodotto:
