The article discusses the evening news coverage of murders in which a woman was a victim, finding that political entrepreneurs have created a strong link between gendered violence and race/ethnicity within the public debate. Media coverage have focused on cases of sex crimes allegedly perpetrated by immigrants or foreigners. The rise of neo-nationalist and anti-immigrant forces has fuelled the interest in the link between gendered violence and race/ethnicity in several European countries, and in Italy, between 2006 and 2008, a “politics of fear” pervaded public discourse and political agendas, and had a strong impact on government policies.
