Much has been said about the connection between chaos theory in science and in recent literature and philosophical thinking, particularly about the way in which they talk to each other in postmodern culture. Since the 1990s, in dialogue with the new science, the humanities have actually worked around a chaotic model of both cultural and individual identity-formation, which appears particularly suited to our late modern times. This essay is motivated by the will to understand what chaos may mean today, and also to ask why looking at chaos may be interesting for postcolonial studies scholars, writers and readers. In dialogue with chaos theory and with postcolonial critical thought, the essay looks at chaos as "complexity and relation"; as "multiple temporalities and the unpredictable"; and as "a form of artistic lateness for our late-style times".

Abstract
Much has been said about the connection between chaos theory in science and in recent literature and philosophical thinking, particularly about the way in which they talk to each other in postmodern culture. Since the 1990s, in dialogue with the new science, the humanities have actually worked around a chaotic model of both cultural and individual identity-formation, which appears particularly suited to our late modern times. This essay is motivated by the will to understand what chaos may mean today, and also to ask why looking at chaos may be interesting for postcolonial studies scholars, writers and readers. In dialogue with chaos theory and with postcolonial critical thought, the essay looks at chaos as "complexity and relation"; as "multiple temporalities and the unpredictable"; and as "a form of artistic lateness for our late-style times".Pubblicazioni consigliate
