Abstract
The settlements, economy, and society developing in the area bordering Lake Garda during the Roman empire and the Early Middle Ages are analyzed using archaeological, agricultural, topographic and written sources. The innovative picture that emerges rejects the hypothesis of a Roman centuriation and instead concords with that of Roman farms, agricultural holdings and villas on the border of the Riva-Arco plane. While those latter continued to be exploited beginning in the early Middle Ages, even the central spaces began to be dedicated to farming using the furlong system in view of a joined initiative of local communities and feudal élite's.Pubblicazioni consigliate
