The present paper illustrates two case studies of municipal solid waste landfills located in Northern Italy. A deterioration of groundwater quality was detected in the area of the landfill. To effectively monitor pollution produced by landfills an environmental analysis was carried out, focusing particularly on the study of hydrogeological aspects and quality of leachate and groundwater. The environmental analysis demonstrated that the cause of pollution could be attributed to industrial and agricultural activities in the areas of interest rather than to the presence of landfills.

Abstract
The present paper illustrates two case studies of municipal solid waste landfills located in Northern Italy. A deterioration of groundwater quality was detected in the area of the landfill. To effectively monitor pollution produced by landfills an environmental analysis was carried out, focusing particularly on the study of hydrogeological aspects and quality of leachate and groundwater. The environmental analysis demonstrated that the cause of pollution could be attributed to industrial and agricultural activities in the areas of interest rather than to the presence of landfills.File in questo prodotto:
