The energy dissipated to the surroundings as heat in a unit volume of material per cycle, Q, was recently proposed by one of the authors as fatigue damage indicator and it was successfully applied to synthesise fatigue data obtained by carrying out stress controlled and strain controlled fatigue tests on AISI 304 L stainless steel plain specimens. In this paper new fatigue test results obtained by means of stress controlled fatigue tests on plain and notched specimens are presented. It was found that all available fatigue data can be synthesised in terms of Q in a unique scatter band, independently on the testing conditions (stress or strain controlled fatigue tests) and on the specimens’ geometry (plain or notched material)

Abstract
The energy dissipated to the surroundings as heat in a unit volume of material per cycle, Q, was recently proposed by one of the authors as fatigue damage indicator and it was successfully applied to synthesise fatigue data obtained by carrying out stress controlled and strain controlled fatigue tests on AISI 304 L stainless steel plain specimens. In this paper new fatigue test results obtained by means of stress controlled fatigue tests on plain and notched specimens are presented. It was found that all available fatigue data can be synthesised in terms of Q in a unique scatter band, independently on the testing conditions (stress or strain controlled fatigue tests) and on the specimens’ geometry (plain or notched material)Pubblicazioni consigliate
