A case-control study was carried out in the Veneto Region (Italy) to identify factors hampering bovine brucellosis eradication. Out of 63 officially infected herds in 1993, 1994, 1995, 30 have been selected as cases. Seventyfour officicially brucellosis free herds at least since 1992 were selected from the populstion of the officially free herds of the Region and considered as controls. Factors studied in their possible association with an increased risk of having at least one infected animal were: herd size, type of farm enterprize, type of stall, grazing practice, cattle introduction, contacts with other bovine herds, with other other sheep/goats herds, with wild animals. <dta were analyed by means of multiple logistic regression. <factors significantly associated (P<0.05) with bovine brucellosis in the study area were herd size and contacts with sheep or goats
