A survey on bovine gastro-intestinalparasitoses was carried out in Val Venosta (Italy), where no previous data were available, on140 herds (466 animals) in order to assess the prevalence and the status of the knowledge and of the control policies of these infections. 93% of herds and 76% of animals resulted positive for parasites. Prevalences were 57% for gastro-intestinal strongyles, 33% for coccidia, 26% for Dicrocelium dendriticum, 6% for tapeworms, 3% for Fasciola hepatica, 2% for whipworms and 0.4% for capillariae. Control practices and knowledge about the economic and sanitary impact of parasitic diseases seem to be inadequate in the area
