Blood samples of 329 dogs from an hyperendemic area of the Po Valley were examined for filariasis. At the filter method (policarbonate membrane), taken as reference test, 45.5% were positive (160 to Dirofilaria immitis, 2 to D. repens and 1 to both). These results were compared with those reported at direct smear test, modified Knott's technique and a further modification of Knott's technique. Relative sensitivity values were of 88%, 91% and 92%, respectively. The relative specificity values were 99%, 100% and 100%, respectively. The discordance with the reference test was statistically significant for all the three methods

Abstract
Blood samples of 329 dogs from an hyperendemic area of the Po Valley were examined for filariasis. At the filter method (policarbonate membrane), taken as reference test, 45.5% were positive (160 to Dirofilaria immitis, 2 to D. repens and 1 to both). These results were compared with those reported at direct smear test, modified Knott's technique and a further modification of Knott's technique. Relative sensitivity values were of 88%, 91% and 92%, respectively. The relative specificity values were 99%, 100% and 100%, respectively. The discordance with the reference test was statistically significant for all the three methodsFile in questo prodotto:
