Sera of 766 sheep were tested for presence of antibodies to PI-3 virus by means of the haemagglutination-inhibition test. Blood samples were collected at a slaughterhouse from lambs and ewes coming from various Italian Northern Regions, West Germany and Czechoslovakia. The overall seroprevalence was 68%. Lambs and animals from domestic flocks showed significantly (P<0.01) lowertitres as well as seroprevalences. All attempts of PI-3 virus isolation from animals showing lesions attributable to a viralinfection failed.
