The activities of the Operating Unit in the field of socio-economics and epidemiology of animal diseases and zoonoses are presented. These covered the following items: computerization of bibliographic and statistcal data on the socio-economic impact of animal diseases and zoonoses, with the creation of a data bank; investigations on disease-associated losses; economic evaluation of national control campaigns and of their effects on human health; evaluation of state veterinary budget; use of computerized techniques in epidemiological studies; study of epidemiologic and socio-economic information systems.
