In this paper an experimental comparison between two fault-tolerant fractional-slot permanent magnet motor drives is presented. Five-phase and dual three-phase motor drives are considered. The aim is to highlight the main differences between the two motor drives in terms of their performance under faulty conditions. Open circuit and short circuit faulty operating conditions are taken into account by means of measurements on prototypes. Advantages and drawbacks of the two systems are discussed and remarked.

Abstract

In this paper an experimental comparison between two fault-tolerant fractional-slot permanent magnet motor drives is presented. Five-phase and dual three-phase motor drives are considered. The aim is to highlight the main differences between the two motor drives in terms of their performance under faulty conditions. Open circuit and short circuit faulty operating conditions are taken into account by means of measurements on prototypes. Advantages and drawbacks of the two systems are discussed and remarked.
