Introduction. Emotional Intelligence (EI; Salovey & Mayer, 1990) includes the capacities to express and identify emotions, to regulate and manage emotions, and to utilise emotions in thought. EI has become more popular also in the organizational, business and commercial worlds. For example, in work settings the assessment of emotional skills seems to be useful when evaluating ongoing functioning (and well-being) of employees at critical stages of their careers, e.g., at selection, training, and promotion phases. Aim. The present work insert within the broader research project (CARIPARO) addressed to investigate the role of EI in career starters’ search for a job, and/or in keeping a job they have. The aim of the present work was to explore the interpersonal and emotional skills at workplace, examining the relationship among them. Additionally, it aimed to explore the effect of age and gender in determining individual differences in the skills levels. Method. 147 participants (45.6 male; Mage = 35.65, DS = 12,1) filled in several section of TIEIT (Italian Test of Emotional Intelligence; Zammuner, 2007) concerning different aspects of abilities at workplace. Results. Results showed important correlations among interpersonal and emotional abilities in work situations. The role of age and gender is discussed.
