The paper is aimed at offering an overview of the actual status of High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) technology, putting into evidence both the critical aspects and the potential advantages. Specific attention is paid to quality requirements from the end-users, production rate achievable, process monitoring and control, European and worldwide scenario. This overview leads to the individuation of the 6 most relevant challenges for HPDC industry: “zero-defect” production, real time process control, understanding the role of process variables, process optimisation, introduction of R&D activities, disseminating the knowledge about HPDC technology.

Abstract
The paper is aimed at offering an overview of the actual status of High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) technology, putting into evidence both the critical aspects and the potential advantages. Specific attention is paid to quality requirements from the end-users, production rate achievable, process monitoring and control, European and worldwide scenario. This overview leads to the individuation of the 6 most relevant challenges for HPDC industry: “zero-defect” production, real time process control, understanding the role of process variables, process optimisation, introduction of R&D activities, disseminating the knowledge about HPDC technology.Pubblicazioni consigliate
