The author focusses on the role of civil society groups and the processes of structural change linked to human rights issues in understanding the changing nature of European and international democracy beyond national boundaries. The paper provides updated information and stimulus for thought, regarding the role of civil society organisations and non-governmental organisation, referring to those non-state groupings whose goals are solidarity and human promotion. The author illustrates the living reality of CSOs platforms and places the role of CSOs in the European model of multi-level governance.
