The aim of this study is to verify if the solution of the Tower of Hanoi problem (TOHA) is influenced by visuo-spatial working memory, as many authors claim. In fact, the TOHA requires anticipation and active keeping of moves sequences in working memory and, thus, a remarkable load on visuo-spatial working memory. Computerized versions of TOHA and Corsi block tapping tasks were submitted to fifty 6 and 7 old age children. ANOVA analysis shows that successful subjects in the TOHA obtain higher score in memory trial than unsuccessful subjects. Furthermore, correlational analysis shows that visuo-spatial memory span is strongly associated with performance quality in the TOHA. Results and implications are discussed.
