This paper illustrates the design criteria of a 30–krpm 1–kW permanent-magnet (PM) motor, highlighting its potentials and limits. The analysis procedures for computing magnetic and electrical quantities are presented, using both analytical and finite element approaches. The flux density in the motors part, the losses limit and the PM demagnetization limit are highlighted. Study of the thermal behavior as well as the mechanical limits are shown. Some different techniques to retain the PM are discussed. A motor prototype is in progress and some experimental results will be presented.

Abstract
This paper illustrates the design criteria of a 30–krpm 1–kW permanent-magnet (PM) motor, highlighting its potentials and limits. The analysis procedures for computing magnetic and electrical quantities are presented, using both analytical and finite element approaches. The flux density in the motors part, the losses limit and the PM demagnetization limit are highlighted. Study of the thermal behavior as well as the mechanical limits are shown. Some different techniques to retain the PM are discussed. A motor prototype is in progress and some experimental results will be presented.File in questo prodotto:
