This paper presents a simpliffed procedure and an experimental apparatus for aerodynamic charaaerization of dryer fabrics running on paper machines, with particular reference to the determination of the boundary /ayer parameters. lnstead of measuring airflow inside the boundary layer direaly on the dryer fabric running in the paper machine, reduced dimension specimens of dryer fabric were studied in the test chamber of a wind tunnel, with signipcant advantages both for time and experimental costs. The results obtained applying this procedure to various types of dryer fabrics are shown. /t was remarked in particular that permeability is the parameter which most greatly influences both boundary layer thickness and the air carried by the dryer fabric.
