In contrast to STAT3 (Signal Transducers and Activators of Transcription-3), STAT1 apparently is indirectly involved in providing an antiproliferative effect in neoplastic cells and contributes to the rejection of tumors. The aims of the present study were to investigate the expression of Stat1 in doxorubicin-treated and untreated FISS and the relationship between Stat1 and histologic grade in both treatment groups. In contrast to hypothesis that STAT1 could be inversely correlated to histologic grade no significant relation was shown. Moreover, only a more intense reaction in doxorubicin-treated group was found in comparison with cats treated with surgery alone. These preliminary data could suggest an influence of doxorubicin treatment on the increase of STAT1 at cellular level and, indirectly, on tumor regression.
