Abstract

A detailed statistical analysis was performed of a velocity field obtained from a composite sample of 1184 optically selected galaxies with known peculiar motions, in order to calculate both the bulk flow and the velocity correlation function. The results are compared with similar analyses performed on mock catalogs in Monte Carlo simulations obtained from linear theory in cold dark matter (CDM) models. It was found that the prediction for the linear bias parameter in the standard CDM model is strongly affected by the Local Group constraint.
