The problem of fluorine compounds interacting with other molecules containing different functional groups has been studied. The results of measurements of infinite dilution activity coefficient data for mixtures containing hydrofluoroparaffins and different organics are reported. Using the group contribution concept (UNIFAC model) it has been possible, starting from these data, to characterize the interactions between groups containing fluorine and other organic groups. This characterization has allowed predictions of thermodynamic behaviour even for mixtures for which experimental information is not available.

Abstract

The problem of fluorine compounds interacting with other molecules containing different functional groups has been studied. The results of measurements of infinite dilution activity coefficient data for mixtures containing hydrofluoroparaffins and different organics are reported. Using the group contribution concept (UNIFAC model) it has been possible, starting from these data, to characterize the interactions between groups containing fluorine and other organic groups. This characterization has allowed predictions of thermodynamic behaviour even for mixtures for which experimental information is not available.
