This paper deals with thermo-mechanical fatigue (TMF) phenomena that arises in dies for hot and warm forging operations. A new simulative test is proposed where the thermo-mechanical cycles and thermal gradients induced on dies are replicated on a specimen of die material. The test is aimed to investigate TMF behavior of alternative materials in different working conditions. Based on the analysis of significant industrial forging cycles performed by numerical and experimental techniques, the conceptual design of test configuration started including the definition of the experimental apparatus to be utilized. At this purpose use of QFD techniques was successful in focusing the attention on most significant aspects and most effective solutions. The design of the new simulative test and its set up are discussed in the paper.

Abstract
The design of the new simulative test and its set up are discussed in the paper.Pubblicazioni consigliate
