The paper describes the new urban transport systems called “advanced intermediate rubber-tyred transport systems with guided running mode”, different from both tram and bus. They are of particular interest because the supply and propulsion systems ensure low air and noise emissions, while the inherent flexibility related to both the guidance and supply modes allows efficient operation in presence of other vehicles or obstacles along the lane. The use of fuel cells as on-board supply is also considered.

Abstract

The paper describes the new urban transport systems called “advanced intermediate rubber-tyred transport systems with guided running mode”, different from both tram and bus. They are of particular interest because the supply and propulsion systems ensure low air and noise emissions, while the inherent flexibility related to both the guidance and supply modes allows efficient operation in presence of other vehicles or obstacles along the lane. The use of fuel cells as on-board supply is also considered.
