Although simple filter-feeding organisms, due to their high sensitivity to pollutants, ascidians can provide useful information on the molecular mechanism of action of specific xenobiotics. In the present paper, the effects of organotin compounds on ascidian phagocytes, mediated by alterations in cytosol calcium homeostasis, are summarised and discussed. Interactions with calmodulin, responsible for most of the subsequent events, seem to be involved.

Abstract
Although simple filter-feeding organisms, due to their high sensitivity to pollutants, ascidians can provide useful information on the molecular mechanism of action of specific xenobiotics. In the present paper, the effects of organotin compounds on ascidian phagocytes, mediated by alterations in cytosol calcium homeostasis, are summarised and discussed. Interactions with calmodulin, responsible for most of the subsequent events, seem to be involved.File in questo prodotto:
