An experimental research to study the effects of controlled drainage systems on the rate of water outflow from agricultural fields was performed on two suitably-equipped catchment areas in the municipality of Ponte di Piave, in the province of Treviso, each covering an area of about 7 hm2. The results obtained in the first two years of the trials demonstrated that, under comparable drainage conditions, controlling flow has a considerable influence on the outflow volumes, both in flood peak lamination and in the reduction of the overall volume of water discharged in the long-term. For the simulation of the flow from the fields concerned, the use od Drainmod model, after the suitable adjustment of certain parameters (and ET, in particular), demonstrated a fair consistency between the flows calculated with the model and those measured in the long-term water balance.
