In this work a new specimen geometry is proposed in order to experimentally evaluate the threshold range of mode I Stress Intensity Factor. Such a geometry is a modification of standard Compact Tension specimen suggested by the ASTM standard and enables one to run a K-decreasing test under a constant amplitude loading, thus simplifying the conventional test procedure. Dedicated three dimensional numerical analyses were performed in order to calibrate the specimen. Finally, experimental test results obtained by means of standard and new specimens were compared.

Abstract
In this work a new specimen geometry is proposed in order to experimentally evaluate the threshold range of mode I Stress Intensity Factor. Such a geometry is a modification of standard Compact Tension specimen suggested by the ASTM standard and enables one to run a K-decreasing test under a constant amplitude loading, thus simplifying the conventional test procedure. Dedicated three dimensional numerical analyses were performed in order to calibrate the specimen. Finally, experimental test results obtained by means of standard and new specimens were compared.File in questo prodotto:
