Based on a survey of the recent literature of KM and Knowledge Economy, the paper aims to discuss the use of IT seen in relation to the different possible approaches to the management of knowledge in business networks. In par-ticular, the paper analyses and discusses three main approaches that can characterise the use of IT for managing knowledge flows. Especially, we refer to the issue of codification of knowledge, which is an essential process for the implementation and use of IT applications, but can be performed in various ways in relation to the specific business purposes and context. Original case-studies are also proposed to provide evidence of the approaches examined.
