The leafhopper Erythroneura vulnerata Fitch is native to North America, where it infests wild and cultivated grapes. In July 2004, E. vulnerata was recorded for the first time on Vitis vinifera L. (cv. Cabernet Sauvignon) in north-eastern Italy (Veneto region). This record is assumed to be the first in Europe. Preliminary observations on the pest distribution, seasonal abundance and the extent of symptoms in north-eastern Italy are reported.
