Recent H, J and K' observations of the Sa spiral NGC 3593 are presented. They show a stellar ring-like structure in the galaxy circumnuclear regions characterized by the presence of a counterrotating disk of stars and gas. The analysis of J-K' and H-K' colors indicate that the counterrotating stellar component is actually younger than the rest of the galaxy. This supports the idea that in NGC 3593 the counterrotating stars have been formed from acquired gas.

Abstract
Recent H, J and K' observations of the Sa spiral NGC 3593 are presented. They show a stellar ring-like structure in the galaxy circumnuclear regions characterized by the presence of a counterrotating disk of stars and gas. The analysis of J-K' and H-K' colors indicate that the counterrotating stellar component is actually younger than the rest of the galaxy. This supports the idea that in NGC 3593 the counterrotating stars have been formed from acquired gas.File in questo prodotto:
