In this work 1.5 years operation of an Italian Secondary School has been monitored via wi-fi instruments for checking electrical consumptions as well as energy need of the building. Electrical measurements have been carried out for the whole period, while energy need of the building has been monitored for the second year. In this study only the electrical consumption and lighting conditions, by means of simulations and measurements taken with the wi-fi sensors, are reported. The simulations have been carried out with the software DAYSIM, which gives the annual illuminance profiles for a specific sensor point. From these profiles, some new UDI indexes have been monthly calculated in order to predict glare occurrence and how many times electric light would be switched on to provide the required illuminance values. The classrooms face to South and West, so the two different orientations have been compared, in order to underline the importance of orientation in daylighting availability.
