This paper analyzes the trends of research on the soundscape, considering three main areas: the first concerning the psychological variables involved in perceptual and cognitive processes, the second considering noise pollution and noise as an element that generates stress, and the last concerning various characteristics of the soundscape. These trends in the research analyzed the soundscape from different but complementary perspectives, which should find forms of integration in the applied research. The educational potential of the content of the soundscape is finally highlighted, by identifying the educational implications and highlighting the importance of the development of cognitive and meta-cognitive strategies in the planning of teaching activities.
