Within a constructivist perspective and referring to Kelly’s personal construct psychology in particular we aimed to understand the oncogenetic process in psychological terms exploring how a person contrues him/herself. 10 cancer patients aged 30-74 with different type and stage of cancer participated in a one hour individual narrative interview. We did a qualitative analysis of each transcript and grouped the themes in five areas: self construction, life story, validational experience, breaking experience, meaning of illness. We found recurrent experiences of loss and guilt with a subsequent attempt to narrow own perceptual field in order to minimize incompatibilities with own core role. At a biological level this process would have generated cancer. This perspective implies the possibility of a psychological treatment of cancer patients through the reconstruction of their personal role.

Abstract
This perspective implies the possibility of a psychological treatment of cancer patients through the reconstruction of their personal role.Pubblicazioni consigliate
