This paper focuses on the thermal design of the Wide Angle Camera for the ROSETTA mission. The work starts from the requirements of the thermal control systems and the expected environmental conditions to illustrate the adopted architecture. The trade-off analysis performed for the detailed design of the most critical component, the baffle, are then reported. The simulation of the operational phases is then illustrated along with some thermo-vacuum tests used for model validation.

Abstract

This paper focuses on the thermal design of the Wide Angle Camera for the ROSETTA mission. The work starts from the requirements of the thermal control systems and the expected environmental conditions to illustrate the adopted architecture. The trade-off analysis performed for the detailed design of the most critical component, the baffle, are then reported. The simulation of the operational phases is then illustrated along with some thermo-vacuum tests used for model validation.
