In 1994, 3 clones of lucerne (Medicago sativa) with high and 3 with low self-fertility were selfed, and the S1 analysed by RAPD. Polymorphic markers were found for each fertility group. Most polymorphic markers segregated in the S1. Markers that did not segregate were found for 8 of the 12 genotype pairs. It is concluded that non-segregating markers can be selected if a sufficiently large number of primers are tested.
