This paper discusses how survey could contribute to the development of the O.M. field in terms of extending its "theories". The considerations presented are based on the opinions and perceptions expressed by eighty-nine O.M. scholars on occasion of the EurOMA workshop "Survey Research in Operations Management - Contribution to New Production Teories and Practices". This note does not seek to offer set answers to this problem, rather it wishes to call attention to the problem in order to encourage further, more in-depth discussion.
