Abstract
The effect of context on the processing [i.e., comprehension] of ambiguous idioms (kick the bucket) were investigated. In the first experiment a cross-modal priming paradigm was used showing facilitation for both the literal and the figurative meaning of the idiom. In Experiments 2 and 3 the course of activation of the idiomatic meaning, and of its integration with the context, was investigated in a self-paced reading task. Relevance of the present results to extant models is discussed.File in questo prodotto:
