In Resian, the genitive plural in feminine a-stems is expressed by the etymologically distinct desinences -0 (zero), -i, -ü and -uw. The latter two are Resian innovations. First, a synchronical description is given of the distribution of these desinences in the various local dialects. This distribution appears to be related to the accent class a substantive belongs to and to the phonological structure of the stem. Then, on the basis of comparative Resian evidence, an explanation is offered for the rise of the innovative desinence -uw.
Genitive plural desinences in Resian feminine a-stem substantives
STEENWIJK, JOHANNES JACOBUS
2006
Abstract
In Resian, the genitive plural in feminine a-stems is expressed by the etymologically distinct desinences -0 (zero), -i, -ü and -uw. The latter two are Resian innovations. First, a synchronical description is given of the distribution of these desinences in the various local dialects. This distribution appears to be related to the accent class a substantive belongs to and to the phonological structure of the stem. Then, on the basis of comparative Resian evidence, an explanation is offered for the rise of the innovative desinence -uw.File in questo prodotto:
