The present study examines the contribution of health to economic development in the context of south-eastern Europe, where health cooperation is gaining momentum thanks to the organization of the Second Health Ministers’ Forum with the special participation of ministers of finance. In the wake of the ministerial conference, we describe the region of interest, its demography and economy. We also describe the economic challenge of achieving sustained economic growth and a reduction in poverty.
