Longitudinal stiffeners employed to increase the stability of the web panels is a choice that allows a notable lightening of structures and material saving. We know we need to pay particular attention on how they are planned, because a wrong sizing or positioning in the height of the soul, set useless the presence of stiffeners. The knowledge of which determine sizing and geometry of stiffeners strongly increase web panel stability. On the other hand it is not so easy to find out simple design rules which fit to all cases because of complexity due to different loading and geometries. Herein design criteria are given and a simple application formula is proposed for the determination of the optimal position of a stiffener.
