Objective: The aim of this paper was to investigate personality dimensions in parental couples who have asked to be declared apt to adopt, according to the Italian law. Although central to evaluate the request, this topic has been scarcely studied by the national and international literature. Method: The aim of this article is to give a first contribution to the topic. This was done using the Rorschach test administered, evaluated and interpreted by Exner's Comprehensive System (1991, 1993). The test together with other instruments was administered to 11 couples that had just begun the assessment to prove their fitness to be adoptive parents. Results: Adoptive parents-to-be showed personality profiles similar to normative population, both with respect to EB styles and quality and quantity of affective and ideative resources. Contrary to the expectations, they seem to cope adequately to the stressors belonging from the adoptive transition to parenthood, showing a more developed and balanced capacity in relationships and overall adaptation.

Abstract
Contrary to the expectations, they seem to cope adequately to the stressors belonging from the adoptive transition to parenthood, showing a more developed and balanced capacity in relationships and overall adaptation.Pubblicazioni consigliate
