(Re)pensando lo religioso en América Latina

This bulletin brings together a series of reflections developed through the virtual discussion cycle Religion, Culture and Public Life: Dialogues Between the Mediterranean and Latin America, which promoted international and intergenerational exchange between doctoral researchers and scholars from Latin America and Europe. The contributions examine contemporary transformations of religion and its intersections with culture, politics, migration, identity, and public life from comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives. The volume addresses cultural Catholicism and popular religiosity, debates surrounding radicalism and radicalization among urban youth, the relationship between religion, modernity, and the state in Latin America, and the experiences of Sikh communities in the Italian diaspora. It also explores the persistence of LGBTQ+ believers within Christian institutions and the opportunities and challenges of LGBTQ+ Christian activism. Across these different topics, the contributions highlight the changing boundaries between the religious and the secular, the importance of social and cultural context, and the role of religious identities in processes of belonging, contestation, migration, and political participation. Taken together, the bulletin offers an interregional dialogue on the multiple ways religion continues to shape contemporary societies and public life.
