Population of the Länder of Austrian Empire, 1828-1865 In this paper we examine population data of the 15 Länder (regions) from the Tafeln zur Statistik (statistical tables) of the Austrian Empire on a yearly basis between 1828-1865, with a specific focus on the description of the sources as referred by the editors. Checks are carried out on the original information with regard to the sex ratio, the numbers reported for each year until 1850, and the data gaps for the years preceding the 1850- 51 and 1857 censuses. The yearly population series are presented and discussed, highlighting data points with possible inaccuracies. Finally, through the use of natural balance we estimate migration flows of the Länder throughout the entire period.
